Paul Newman and the Ride Home Concert Poster
A friend of mine asked me to design a concert poster for his band, with the only specific request being that the design feature an image of a broken-down car. I began by selecting an image from Adobe Stock and editing it in Photoshop. To allow more space for the band name, “Paul Newman and the Ride Home”, I extended the background, giving the design a more balanced composition.
To make the band name stand out, I added a subtle black transparent gradient that faded from top to bottom, creating contrast and ensuring the text remained legible against the busy background. For added visual interest, I positioned part of the band name behind the car, drawing the viewer’s eye upward and guiding it naturally toward the logo. This not only highlighted the band name but also created a sense of depth in the design.
Next, I included the event details—time, date, and location—at the bottom of the poster, ensuring they were easy to find without overshadowing the primary visual elements. To finish off the design, I applied a textured overlay, reminiscent of a classic concert poster, which gave the overall design a more tactile, life-like quality and added a sense of authenticity.
The result was a dynamic and visually compelling poster that captured the essence of the band while clearly communicating the event details in an engaging and professional way.
